Description

Chicory root powder is a natural prebiotic derived from the root of the chicory plant—a member of the dandelion family with bright blue flowers, employed for centuries in cooking and traditional medicine. Our powdered formula contains a high concentration of inulin (92%), an excellent prebiotic fiber that also acts as a mild sweetener with about 30% of the sweetness of sugar. The unique structure of inulin allows it to pass through the mouth and small intestine completely unaffected by enzymatic hydrolysis. It reaches the colon intact, where it undergoes fermentation by lactic enzymes—this process boosts beneficial bacteria, inhibits harmful pathogens, and promotes gut microbiota balance, improving colon function and overall health. For gut barrier protection, prebiotics like chicory root strengthen the protective "barrier" of the gut, preventing pathogenic microorganisms from crossing into the body and causing undesirable effects such as diarrhea. For cancer prevention, prebiotics inhibit or slow the growth of intestinal tumors. Probiotic microorganisms enhanced by prebiotics can bind to certain carcinogenic chemicals, suppressing their activity and reducing cancer risk. For mineral absorption, prebiotics containing fructo-oligosaccharides (such as inulin) are linked to increased calcium and magnesium levels in the colon. These minerals regulate the renewal rate of intestinal wall cells, promote calcium and magnesium absorption, and help prevent conditions like osteopenia and osteoporosis by supporting bone density. For constipation relief, studies show that inulin can soften stool and significantly increase bowel movement frequency—a four-week study in 44 adults with constipation found that taking 12 grams of chicory inulin per day significantly increased bowel movements compared to a placebo, while another study in 16 people with low stool frequency showed an increase from 4 to 5 bowel movements per week on average. For blood sugar control, chicory root fiber may boost blood sugar regulation, especially in people with diabetes, by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria involved in carbohydrate metabolism and insulin sensitivity. A two-month study in 49 women with type 2 diabetes found that taking 10 grams of inulin per day led to significant decreases in blood sugar levels and hemoglobin A1c. For weight management, studies suggest that chicory root fiber may regulate appetite and decrease overall calorie intake by reducing levels of ghrelin—the hunger hormone. A 12-week study in 48 adults with excess weight determined that taking 21 grams per day of chicory-derived oligofructose led to a significant 2.2-pound (1 kg) average reduction in body weight, while the placebo group gained weight.

EFSA-Approved Health Claims: According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the following health claims can be made when 12 grams of inulin (approximately one full tablespoon or two teaspoons) are consumed daily: promotes digestive health, naturally supports digestive well-being, and supports a healthy and balanced digestive system.

How to Use: Chicory root powder is easy to add to your daily routine. It can be stirred into water, tea, coffee, yogurt, smoothies, oatmeal, or baked goods. As a coffee substitute, add 2 tablespoons (11 grams) of ground chicory root for every 1 cup (240 ml) of water in your coffeemaker. Due to its mild sweetness, it works well as a natural sweetener and fiber booster in a variety of foods and beverages. Ideal for individuals seeking natural digestive support, enhanced mineral absorption for bone health, blood sugar regulation, appetite control and weight management, or daily prebiotic supplementation for overall gut and colon health.
